As a writer, I wanted to write a few things that I’m thinking about before this school year starts. First of all, I’m so excited to see all of you again and meet new students (if you’re out there!). This summer has been so wonderful and I’ve learned so many things about myself as a reader and a writer and I can’t wait to share them with you!
Here’s a peek: I went to the beach in North Carolina with my dogs Lola and Dilsey (you’ll learn so much about them) and I discovered that Lola loves the water. I wrote alot about this in my writer’s journal.
I also discovered that while I thought I could get some good reading in at the beach; I was dying to read this collection of work by Gary Soto called “The Effects of Knut Hamson on a Fresno BoY” and I had a book on deck by Anne Carson, which was a novel in poems called “The Autobiography of Red”, I just couldn’t read on the beach. Lola demanded all of my attention!!!! My sister Tasha is a photographer and she took photos of us having fun romping around. Later, I used those photos to remind me of how I felt on the beach. Then I wrote about it sitting on the deck of the home we rented. It was awesome. In the evening, the salt breeze blew over me and I was reminded of the family vacations I took when I was thirteen. You’ll want to read about the time my other sister Tammy, and my cousin Cindy decided we HAD to visit this hot boy who worked at the sub-shop on the boardwalk so we split. Really split. We hopped on our bikes and rode over 13 miles to the boardwalk to see him. We got in a lot of trouble, but more importantly we learned alot about ourselves. Also, over the summer, I got to spend some time in Pennslyvania with my Mom and Dad. I love them. They are so funny. My dad is the type of guy who watches a lot of football and mows the grass alot. He talks to me about my car and my dogs and then hours later says, so, Jen, are you happy? Sometimes words are hard for him. He’s cool. though. I have lots of journal entries about him. My mom is a hummingbird. She can’t even sit down for a minute, unless she’s driving somewhere. We had a really cool conversation on the way to the grocery store. I wrote about it. Then, Pablo, my boyfriend, (you may have met him last year on career day; he was the architect), he took me to a double header on my birthday! It was so great! I had two hot-dogs, a soda, and an ice-cream cone while we watched the Mets kick the Braves butts. I love baseball. I love sitting on the orange seats in Mets stadium and smiling at all the other fans around me. Sometimes when the game is slow I strike up conversations with people around me. They are so interesting. I wrote about that too! I don’t want to give everything away, but I wrote alot and read alot this summer! WHY? I love it. Anyway, if you’re reading this right now, you’ve accessed our blog!!!!! YEH! There’s some cool stuff on it. Check it out.
